Immerse yourself in the community clay studio with our Adult Winter Camp! We'll spend a week together exploring new ways to build mugs using slabs. We’ll experiment with techniques like darting and foot molds (aka pukis) to create forms that are interesting, functional, and personal.

While the focus is on slab-building, the ideas we cover—like refining rims, shaping handles, and thinking through proportions—will be useful to both handbuilders and wheel throwers.

This class will address:

  • darting

  • using molds to create refined feet

  • various ways to make functional handles

  • rims, handle size, and other details that make you love a mug

Some experience with clay is helpful, but you don’t need to be an expert. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to try new things.

Note: if you can't make the glazing session on 2/3, we will glaze your pieces for you.

Membership Add-On Option: For those who would like more time to practice, we are offering a $50 membership add-on that gives you access to the shared studio from 6am-10pm for two weeks, starting the first day of class. It also includes an additional half bag of clay, glazing, and firing (a $125 value in all). Additional clay and firings can be purchased as well.

What students are saying about this teacher:

“Ros and the Friendly City Clay and Art team are amazing! Each class is a beautiful community of learning a new skill TOGETHER. Ros creates a wonderful and welcoming atmosphere that I look forward to being part of weekly” -Erin

Cancellation Policy:

Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for. You can find out more on our studio policies page.
