Throw bigger—without working harder!

In this fun, focused class, LP will show you how to use a paddle to your advantage, making it easier than ever to center more clay with confidence. This simple but powerful technique works no matter how much clay you’re throwing.

Whether 4 lbs feels big or 25 lbs is your challenge, this class is for you. Come get your hands dirty, learn a new trick, and level up your throwing game!

Over the course of this hands-on series, you’ll bring your own platter to life from start to finish. In the first class, we’ll dive in with paddles to throw a bold, beautiful platter. Week two is all about refining your piece as you trim and shape it to perfection. In week three, you’ll glaze your platter and make it uniquely yours.

Then, for those who want to celebrate, join us for an optional fourth-week potluck—where we’ll gather, share food, and enjoy using our finished platters together.

About the Instructor

LP Keller fell in love with the Friendly City when she studied art at JMU. In 2016, she earned a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics. She is a certified art teacher in Virginia and used to teach in Harrisonburg City Public Schools. She has been teaching with FCCAC from the beginning and has loved getting to know this growing clay community. She loves seeing how her students express themselves through clay.

LP creates functional pottery designed to feel good in your hands and bring a touch of modern elegance to your home. Her pottery is an invitation to slow down, hold something made by hand, and reconnect through everyday rituals. She is a mother, a baker, a ceramicist, an art teacher, and the woman behind LPMpottery.
