From Pot to Creature with Jean Mendenhall (Members Only)
Overview
Saturday, June 6, 9am-4pm
Members only (age 21 and up)
Cost: $60+ $15 materials (all materials are included)
Learn to alter a thrown piece into an animal suitable for display as a wall hanging or luminary in this fun class for members! Jean will provide various thrown shapes. We’ll then cut, carve, shape and add attachments. The clay “magically” morphs into a fish, a bird, a cow, a monkey or whatever you can imagine.
We will allow our pieces to dry as we have lunch. We'll meet back up to underglaze our work, give them a name, and most importantly write their bio!
Upon completion of the class you will have a greenware piece that will need to dry slowly.
It will then be bisque fired and ready for a clear glaze.
About the Instructor:
Retired RN with love of creating. Exposed to pottery 25 years ago on a military base. I established some basics but left the craft when we relocated. I rejoined my pottery journey after moving to Harrisonburg 3 years ago. I became a member and took classes at Make Waynesboro. Once Friendly City Clay opened I jumped on the chance to join becoming one of the initial members. I joined the Studio Assistant team shortly there after.
I’ve taken several wheel classes in my journey along with hand building. Thus emerged my passion for altering wheel shapes. I love utilizing underglazes and textures to bring life to my pieces.
Class Cancellations and Absence
Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for. You can find out more on our studio policies page.
