$120.00
Only 3 available

Overview

  • 3 Saturdays, 1-3:30pm, 4/11, 4/18, and 5/2

  • Ages 16 and up are welcome

  • Cost: $100 + $20 materials (all materials are included)

  • Students should have some clay experience, but do not need to have done raku firing before.

Arrive prepared to expand your creativity! In this Raku class you will assemble leatherhard clay components, provided by the instructor, into 3-4 creative sculptural and semi-functional works of art. In the first session, we will focus on designing and building your sculptures. A week later, we will dedicate our time to surface decoration and glazing on the bisque-fired work. The last session will complete the process as we fire the work in the traditional Japanese technique of raku -- an ancient firing method that features immediate and spontaneous results.

About the Instructor:

Herb Weaver has been an artist and art educator for nearly four decades, first at the high school level and then over thirty years as a college professor. His area of expertise is ceramic sculpture having earned an MFA from JMU in Ceramics, and a BS in Art Education from EMU. He has participated in over 200 exhibitions, nationally and abroad, and recently transitioned to full-time art-making in his studio/home near Singers Glen, VA.

Class Cancellations and Absence

Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for. You can find out more on our studio policies page.
