Discover the endless variety of papers collage artists use — and then make your own. Over three classes, we’ll explore where and how to source papers, whether to use them as-is, like magazine clips, or as a foundation for further artistic layering. You’ll create collage papers using drawing tools, paint mediums, acrylic markers, and printing techniques using the gel plate, along with stamping, stenciling, and botanical applications for unexpected effects. On the last week of class, we’ll build a fun group collage using our extensive stash of papers. Walk away with paper-making secrets — and a beautiful stack of your own papers ready for your next collage. This is a course for all individuals at all levels interested in creating collage papers and exploring collage as an art form. I’ll be there to help you every step of the way.
Chris is an abstract painter and collage artist living on a small homestead in Churchville, VA. A native of southern California, where she earned her academic credentials, she studied studio art and graphic design and worked in the corporate marketing world for 20 years as a graphic designer. She moved to Virginia, and worked another 8 years as a graphic artist in downtown Staunton. Today, her passion centers on making art, and teaching art. A committed process painter, Chris loves abstract visual stories: the shortest of stories; poetic one-liners that oft times defy curation. “I want to paint the poem.”
Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for.
