Cozy Clay - Independent Wheel Throwing Projects with LP
Overview
6 Wednesdays, 6-8:15pm, 1/21-2/25
Ages 16 and up are welcome
Cost: $200 + $35 materials
Students should have experience with throwing on the pottery wheel, including centering, pulling up walls, and trimming.
Looking to shake things up in your clay practice—or just beat the winter doldrums with some creative time for yourself? In this class, you’ll design and develop your own projects while exploring new forms and ideas, with guidance from your instructor and inspiration from your classmates. It’s a collaborative, hands-on space to challenge yourself creatively, stay inspired through the colder months, and discover what’s next for your work.
This session’s loose theme is “Cozy Clay”, with forms like teapots and platters as inspiration. You can stick with the theme or follow your own creative spark. We’ll also hold occasional “compassionate critiques”—gentle, constructive feedback sessions that help us grow as artists. You’re welcome to bring in past work for these discussions.
For this session, we’ll be collaborating with a handbuilding class, giving you the chance to learn from multiple teachers (Ros will be teaching handbuilding) and even combine handbuilding and wheel-thrown elements if you choose. We’ll start each class together as a group, then branch off into our respective workspaces.
What students are saying about this class:
"LP is such a patient teacher. She is skilled at meeting students where they are in their clay journey, as is able to provide constructive feedback/ideas. Highly recommend taking a class with LP- you won’t be disappointed!”
About the Instructor
LP Keller fell in love with the Friendly City when she studied art at JMU. In 2016, she earned a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics. She is a certified art teacher in Virginia and used to teach in Harrisonburg City Public Schools. She has been teaching with FCCAC from the beginning and has loved getting to know this growing clay community. She loves seeing how her students express themselves through clay.
LP creates functional pottery designed to feel good in your hands and bring a touch of modern elegance to your home. Her pottery is an invitation to slow down, hold something made by hand, and reconnect through everyday rituals. She is a mother, a baker, a ceramicist, an art teacher, and the woman behind LPMpottery.
Class Cancellations and Absence
Refunds minus a 10% or $20 processing fee (whichever is lower) are offered until 14 days before the start of class. After that, we do not offer refunds. We don’t offer refunds for missed classes, so please be sure you can attend all sessions of a class, or that you are okay with missing any that you’ll be away for. You can find out more on our studio policies page.
